OUTDOOR is DEMON's prescription mountain eyewear designed for mountaineering, hiking and ski mountaineering. Its photochromic Category 2–4 lens adapts to changing levels of UV exposure, while the removable optical clip allows prescription lenses to be fitted separately by an optician. A wraparound Base 8 frame, removable foam insert and elastic retaining cord make the model particularly suited to demanding mountain environments where light, wind and weather conditions can change significantly during the same outing.

Product Overview
Prescription Eyewear Designed for the Mountains
Mountain environments place very specific demands on eyewear. Light can change quickly between shaded trails, exposed rock, snowfields and high-altitude terrain, while strong lateral light and reflected glare can make visual comfort particularly important during long days outdoors.
OUTDOOR combines a strongly curved Base 8 wraparound frame with a photochromic Category 2–4 lens. The geometry provides broad coverage around the eyes, while the photochromic technology reduces the need to choose one fixed lens darkness before starting the route.
The key distinction of this prescription version is the removable optical clip. Prescription lenses are fitted into the insert rather than directly into the strongly curved external lens. This allows the wearer to retain the technical wraparound construction of the OUTDOOR frame while using corrective lenses prepared by an optician.

Photochromic Category 2–4: One Lens for Variable Mountain Light
The OUTDOOR lens begins at Category 2 and can darken to Category 4 as UV exposure increases. This wide photochromic range is particularly relevant in mountain environments, where a route may alternate between woodland, shaded rock faces, open slopes, snow and highly exposed terrain.
In less intense light, the lens remains at its lighter end of the range. As UV exposure increases, it becomes progressively darker, reaching Category 4 under sufficiently strong conditions. This creates a more adaptable solution than a fixed Category 4 lens when the wearer expects substantial changes in light during the same activity.
Category 2 Starting Point
The lighter end of the range is more practical when moving through moderate light or shaded areas than a permanently dark high-mountain lens.
Category 4 Maximum
At the darkest end of its range, the lens is designed for extremely bright conditions such as those encountered at altitude and around snow-covered terrain.
Automatic Adaptation
The lens reacts to UV exposure, allowing its tint to change as environmental conditions vary without manually replacing the lens.
UV400 Protection for High-Exposure Outdoor Environments
OUTDOOR provides UV400 protection, designed to filter ultraviolet radiation up to 400 nm and therefore covering both UVA and UVB wavelengths. This is especially relevant in exposed mountain environments, where altitude and reflective surfaces such as snow can significantly increase the amount of light reaching the eyes.
UV protection should not be confused with visible lens darkness: the Category 2–4 rating describes the lens response to visible light, while UV400 describes its ultraviolet filtering capability.
Important: Category 4 lenses are intended for extremely bright light
conditions and are not suitable for driving.
Wraparound TR90 Construction with Removable Foam Protection
TR90 Sports Frame
The frame is made from TR90, a material widely used in technical sports eyewear because it combines low weight, flexibility and resistance to the mechanical stresses associated with active outdoor use.
Base 8 Wraparound Geometry
The strongly curved Base 8 construction creates a close, enveloping shape around the face. This helps provide broader lateral coverage than a flatter conventional optical frame.
Removable Inner Foam
A removable foam insert runs around the internal contact area of the frame. It helps create an additional barrier around the eyes against wind, airborne particles and lateral light while also helping manage perspiration during demanding activity.
Elastic Retaining Cord
The supplied elastic cord provides additional retention when moving over uneven terrain or during more dynamic phases of a climb, helping keep the eyewear securely positioned.
Prescription System
Removable Optical Clip for Prescription Lenses
Instead of requiring the main wraparound lens to be produced with a prescription, OUTDOOR uses a removable internal optical clip. The clip can be taken to an optician, who can fit the required corrective lenses within the stated prescription limits.
The insert uses a Base 6 geometry, which is less curved than the Base 8 external frame. This configuration allows the optical correction to remain separate from the protective outer lens while preserving the wraparound design of the glasses.
According to the specifications for this model, the clip supports prescriptions up to -6.00 / +5.00 sphere and ±2.00 cylinder. It is also indicated as suitable for bifocal lenses.
