Glasses for Mountain Activities: Mountaineering, Hiking, Trekking, and All Outdoor Pursuits

DEMON shares your passion for the outdoors and has developed a specialized line of mountain eyewear, perfect for activities such as mountaineering, hiking, and all outdoor adventures. These glasses allow mountaineers and outdoor enthusiasts to fully immerse themselves in the breathtaking experience of the mountains, offering essential protection and clarity in any environment.

Choosing eyewear specifically designed for mountain activities ensures optimal eye protection in various lighting and weather conditions. This allows you to focus entirely on enjoying nature and enhancing your performance, while also ensuring comfort and precise vision correction.

In DEMON’s collection of mountain glasses, you’ll find models featuring:

  • Polarized Photochromic Lenses (Category 2 – 4): Ideal for mountaineering, ski mountaineering, and hiking, these lenses adjust their tint according to UV exposure, transitioning from category 2 to category 4 at maximum activation. The polarization enhances contrast perception, sharpens vision, and reduces eye strain, even in extreme light conditions. This combination ensures excellent visibility in the ever-changing mountain environment. The specialized model, OUTDOOR, with polarized and mirrored photochromic lenses, blends technical features with a stylish design, making it perfect for any outdoor activity.

  • Photochromic Lenses (Category 2 – 4): These lenses, also suited for mountaineering, ski mountaineering, and hiking, automatically adjust from category 2 to category 4 based on UV intensity. This adaptability guarantees optimal visibility in varying light conditions, critical for the unpredictable nature of mountain environments.

  • Category 4 Lenses: Recommended for mountaineering, hiking, and Nordic walking, these very dark lenses are particularly useful on glaciers and in areas with intense brightness and high UV exposure. While typically designed for mountaineers, category 4 lenses are also beneficial for athletes with heightened sensitivity to strong light during outdoor activities.

  • Category 3 Lenses: Best suited for Nordic walking, hiking, and climbing at lower altitudes, category 3 lenses offer medium-dark tinting that provides adequate protection without being overly dark. They are ideal for trekkers who require versatile mountain glasses for a range of activities at lower elevations.

  • Polarized Lenses: Polarized lenses provide superior contrast and clarity, making them an excellent choice for hiking, climbing, and Nordic walking. These lenses reduce glare and eye fatigue, enhancing the natural perception of colors and providing clearer vision. Polarized lenses are perfect for trekkers looking for all-around mountain glasses.

  • Category 4 Polarized Lenses: These lenses are the ultimate choice for mountaineering, combining the high-level protection of category 4 with the visual benefits of polarization. This dual feature offers unparalleled eye protection and visual clarity in the harshest conditions.

Vision Correction for Outdoor Adventures

For outdoor enthusiasts who require versatile vision correction, the OUTDOOR model with bifocal lenses is an ideal option. This model supports both single-vision and bifocal lenses, providing clarity for both distant views and up-close tasks, such as reading GPS devices or smartphones. With its wide clip, this frame accommodates various lens types, ensuring that you can fully enjoy your outdoor adventures without compromising on vision clarity.

If you're into trekking or hiking, the FUSION and INFINITE OPTIC models with their smaller clips are perfect choices. These frames are specifically designed to support single-vision lenses for distant viewing, making them ideal for activities where clarity in long-range vision is essential. However, for more demanding activities like mountaineering, where both distant and close-up vision are necessary—for instance, when reading instruments—the OUTDOOR model would be a better fit, as it supports bifocal lenses. So, if you're preparing for mountaineering adventures, it's wise to choose the OUTDOOR model for greater versatility in your vision needs.

PRESCRIPTION DIRECTLY ON THE FRAME:

As an alternative to clip-on solutions, you can opt to have the prescription lenses applied directly to the frame for the VISTA SPORT, SPECIAL, XLITE J, ALTAVIA and LAYER models.

The VISTA SPORT model, designed for specialized use, features a wraparound frame. When prescription lenses are fitted into this frame, the base curve of the lens is adjusted from base 8 to base 6, effectively reducing the risk of lateral visual distortions. This adjustment not only improves visual clarity but also helps lower the cost of prescription lenses.

This allows you to equip prescription sun lenses, enabling you to participate in both hiking and mountaineering while correcting any visual impairments.

On the other hand, the SPECIAL, XLITE J, ALTAVIA, and LAYER models are true optical frames made from materials specifically designed for sports eyewear.

We recommend these models for individuals engaging in hiking and trekking, as they provide less coverage and protection against wind, side light, and inclement weather, which can be particularly bothersome at higher altitudes.

Ultra-Lightweight Frames Resistant to High and Low Temperatures:

The frames of mountain glasses are made from a special TR90 material, a blend of nylon and carbon fiber. This composition makes the mountain glasses 20% lighter than those made from conventional materials while enhancing their resistance to accidental impacts and strains. TR90 is the optimal material for creating eyewear for mountain activities due to its superior resistance to both high and low temperatures.

For certain models, an adjustable elastic band made from neoprene is included to provide a better fit and grip during challenging passages. This feature is particularly useful for climbing sections and alpinism.

Additionally, some models come with a removable internal sweatband made from hypoallergenic rubber. This feature prevents sweat from dripping into the eyes during intense exertion while offering protection from lateral sunlight. This technology is especially valued by those who participate in alpinism.
