Prescription Mountain Eyewear for Changing Conditions
Mountain environments can combine intense sunlight, highly reflective snow, shaded trails and rapidly changing exposure within the same outing. OUTDOOR is designed around these conditions, combining a strongly curved sports frame with adaptive lenses and an internal prescription clip.
The wraparound geometry helps limit peripheral light entering around the frame, while the large removable optical insert provides prescription correction without replacing the technical outer lens. This makes the system particularly practical for users who normally wear prescription glasses but want dedicated prescription mountaineering eyewear for hiking, high-altitude routes and ski mountaineering.
The prescription insert can also accommodate bifocal lenses within the supported prescription range, providing an option for users who need both distance correction and assistance when reading instruments, maps or other close-range information.
Photochromic Polarized Category 2–4 Lenses
The defining feature of OUTDOOR is its combination of photochromic, polarized and mirrored lens technologies. Each technology performs a different function, working together to make the glasses suitable for demanding mountain environments.
Photochromic Category 2–4
The lens begins at Category 2 and progressively darkens as UV exposure increases, reaching Category 4 in conditions of strong ultraviolet radiation. When UV exposure decreases, the lens becomes lighter again.
This adaptive behaviour is especially useful on routes that alternate between exposed terrain and shaded areas, reducing the need to change eyewear as light conditions vary.
Polarized Filter
The polarizing filter helps reduce reflected glare from horizontal or highly reflective surfaces. In mountain environments, this can be particularly useful around snow, wet rock, water and other surfaces that produce strong reflected light.
Reduced reflected glare can support more comfortable vision and clearer perception of the surrounding terrain during prolonged outdoor use.
Mirrored Outer Surface
The mirrored finish complements the technical construction of the lens and gives OUTDOOR its distinctive mountain-sport appearance. It is a separate feature from both polarization and photochromic activation.
Polycarbonate Construction
The lenses are made from polycarbonate, a material widely suited to sports eyewear because of its low weight and resistance to impact and fragmentation compared with more brittle lens materials.
Important: because the photochromic lens can reach Category 4, OUTDOOR is not suitable for driving.
Changing light
Why Category 2–4 Matters in the Mountains
A fixed Category 4 lens is designed for extremely bright conditions, but its permanently dark tint can be less practical when moving into shaded sections of a route. OUTDOOR takes a different approach: its photochromic lens starts from a lighter Category 2 tint and darkens progressively as UV exposure increases.
On exposed mountain terrain and in strong sunlight, the lens can reach the high protection level of Category 4. When conditions become less intense, the lighter state helps maintain greater usability without requiring the wearer to change lenses.
This makes the lens particularly appropriate for activities where illumination can change repeatedly throughout the day, including mountaineering, hiking and ski mountaineering.
UV400 Protection and TR90 Sports Frame
UV400 Protection
The outer lenses provide UV400 protection, designed to filter ultraviolet radiation up to 400 nm and therefore cover UVA and UVB wavelengths.
This is particularly relevant in mountain environments, where strong solar exposure and reflection from snow or exposed terrain can create demanding light conditions.
TR90 Ultralight Frame
The frame is made from TR90, a lightweight and flexible material well suited to active eyewear. Its ability to flex helps the frame withstand the mechanical stresses associated with sports and outdoor use while maintaining comfortable wear.
The complete eyewear weighs 53 grams, including the optical clip, removable sweat sponge and elastic cord.
Designed to Stay Comfortable During Active Mountain Use
Removable Sweat Sponge
A soft removable inner sponge sits between the frame and the face. During strenuous activity, it helps manage sweat around the eye area while also reducing the entry of wind, snow, dust and small debris from around the frame.
Because the sponge is removable, the glasses can be adapted according to activity, temperature and personal preference.
Grip and Elastic Cord
Rubberised contact areas on the nose and temples help improve grip and stability during movement. The included elastic cord adds further retention when greater security is required on technical terrain or during dynamic activity.
Removable Base 6 Optical Clip
OUTDOOR includes a removable prescription insert positioned behind the technical outer lens. This allows prescription lenses to be fitted to the insert while retaining the photochromic polarized mountain lens on the outside.
The optical clip uses a Base 6 geometry and measures 48 mm in lens width and 29 mm in lens height. Its relatively generous lens area supports useful peripheral vision compared with very small prescription inserts and can also accommodate bifocal lenses within the stated prescription limits.

Wraparound Base 8 Outer Lens
The technical outer lens uses a Base 8 curvature, a strongly curved geometry commonly used in wraparound sports eyewear. On OUTDOOR, this curvature creates close lateral coverage around the face, helping reduce peripheral exposure to light, wind and airborne debris.
Prescription correction is handled separately by the removable Base 6 optical clip positioned inside the frame. This combination allows the strongly wrapped outer sports lens and the prescription insert to perform distinct functions within the same eyewear system.
