Mountain Eyewear Designed for Changing Conditions
Mountain environments rarely provide constant light. A route may begin in woodland or deep shade, continue across exposed rock and finish on snow or ice under intense solar radiation. OUTDOOR is designed around this variability, using a photochromic Category 2–4 lens that changes its level of tint according to UV exposure.
This makes the model particularly suitable for activities where carrying separate sunglasses for moderate and extremely bright conditions would be impractical. The lens begins at Category 2 and can darken progressively up to Category 4 when UV exposure becomes intense.
The frame has a strongly curved Base 8 sports geometry, creating a close-fitting profile suited to dynamic outdoor use. The combination of frame shape, retaining cord and removable sweat sponge is intended to provide a stable and protective fit when moving through demanding terrain.
Photochromic Category 2–4 Lenses
The main technical feature of OUTDOOR is its Category 2–4 photochromic lens. Photochromic technology responds to UV exposure by progressively changing lens darkness: the lens remains lighter when UV levels are lower and becomes darker as exposure increases.
For mountaineers and hikers, this helps manage transitions between very different environments without changing eyewear. Shaded trails, forest sections, changing cloud cover, exposed ridges and snow-covered terrain can all produce significantly different levels of brightness during the same outing.
Reaching Category 4 makes the lens suitable for extremely bright mountain environments and intense solar radiation, particularly where snow and ice increase reflected light.
Understanding Category 2–4
Category 2 provides a lighter tint suited to moderate sunlight and less exposed conditions.
Category 4 is designed for extremely bright conditions such as high mountains, snowfields and glacial environments.
Important: Category 4 lenses are not suitable for driving. When the photochromic lens has darkened into this range, the eyewear should not be used while driving.
