PRODUCT OVERVIEW
One Running Frame for Changing Outdoor Light
Running rarely takes place under completely uniform lighting. A road session can begin before sunrise and continue into brighter conditions, while a trail can alternate rapidly between exposed sections, wooded areas and deep shade. GRAVEL has been developed around this practical requirement.
Its defining feature is the wide DCHROM® photochromic lens with a Category 0–3 range. Instead of beginning from a permanently tinted base, the lens can reach a transparent Category 0 state in low light and progressively become darker as UV exposure increases.
This makes the model particularly suitable for runners who prefer not to change lenses when their route or training time involves significant variations in natural light.
Wide Sports Coverage
The large single-lens design creates broad frontal and peripheral coverage. During trail running, this helps shield the eye area from wind, dust, insects and small airborne debris, while the wraparound geometry is equally useful on exposed road-running routes.
Low Weight for Dynamic Use
At 30 grams, GRAVEL keeps overall frame weight low despite its generous lens surface. This supports comfort during longer sessions and reduces unnecessary bulk while running.
DCHROM® Photochromic Lens: Category 0–3
The DCHROM® lens is the central technical feature of GRAVEL. Its Category 0–3 photochromic range allows the lens to respond to variations in UV exposure by progressively changing its level of tint.
At the lighter end of the range, the lens reaches Category 0 and appears transparent, making it suitable for low-light outdoor situations such as early starts, overcast weather and heavily shaded trail sections. As exposure increases, the lens darkens progressively, reaching Category 3 for bright outdoor conditions.
For runners, the practical benefit is adaptability during a session. On routes that alternate between exposed terrain and woodland, or during training that begins in low light and continues into daylight, the lens can adjust without the runner having to manually replace it.

TR90 Frame with Adjustable Nose Pad
GRAVEL uses an ultralight TR90 sports frame, a material valued in performance eyewear for its combination of low weight, flexibility and resistance to the mechanical stresses associated with active use.
An adjustable nose pad allows the contact area around the nose to be fine-tuned, helping the wearer optimise positioning and stability during movement.
The Base 8 lens geometry gives GRAVEL its strongly wraparound profile. This type of curvature is commonly used in technical sports eyewear because it allows the lens to extend around the face rather than remaining relatively flat.
Convertible Lower Rim
GRAVEL is supplied with an additional lower rim, allowing the appearance of the frame to be configured according to the supplied components. Depending on the frame colour combination, the additional rim is supplied in white or black.
This gives the model an extra degree of visual customisation while preserving the distinctive shield-style construction of the GRAVEL design.
UV400 Protection and Polycarbonate Lens Construction
The GRAVEL lens provides UV400 protection. UV400 filtration is designed to cover ultraviolet wavelengths up to 400 nm, therefore including both UVA and UVB radiation.
Importantly, ultraviolet protection is present independently of how dark the photochromic lens appears. A transparent Category 0 state should not be confused with an absence of UV protection.
The lens is made from polycarbonate, a material well suited to dynamic sports eyewear because it combines low weight with good resistance to impact and fragmentation compared with more brittle lens materials.
Why Category 0–3 matters for runners
The wide range is designed for changing outdoor light rather than one fixed brightness level, making GRAVEL particularly relevant for routes that move between shade and open terrain or for sessions spanning different times of day.
