ROUBAIX is designed for cyclists who want the adaptability of a photochromic cycling lens without giving up the distinctive appearance of a mirrored single-lens design. Developed for road cycling, mountain biking, gravel and other cycling disciplines, its DCHROM® lens reacts to changing light exposure, becoming darker as sunlight increases and returning towards its lighter state when UV exposure is reduced.
The lightly tinted base makes the lens particularly versatile when conditions are less intense, including cloudy weather, shaded trails and rides that continue towards sunset. In stronger sunlight, the lens can darken to Category 3, providing greater visual comfort while maintaining the wide coverage expected from modern performance cycling sunglasses.
Light conditions rarely remain constant during a long ride. Open roads, wooded sections, changing cloud cover and late-afternoon light can all create significant variations within the same route. ROUBAIX addresses this through a mirrored photochromic lens that changes its level of darkness according to UV exposure.
The wide single-lens shape provides extensive frontal coverage, helping shield the eyes from wind, dust, insects, leaves and other airborne elements commonly encountered while cycling. Despite the generous dimensions of the frame, the complete glasses weigh only 25 grams.
The result is a cycling model designed to combine visual coverage, low weight and adaptability across different riding environments without requiring the cyclist to change lenses whenever the light changes.
The DCHROM® lens uses photochromic technology that responds to UV radiation. When UV exposure increases, a reversible reaction causes the lens to darken. As exposure decreases, the lens progressively returns towards its lighter state. This allows ROUBAIX to adapt to changing outdoor light without requiring a manual lens change.
Its base remains lightly tinted rather than fully dark, supporting use in lower-light conditions such as overcast weather, shaded terrain and rides approaching sunset. Under maximum sunlight conditions, the lens can reach Category 3.
On mountain bike routes, the wide lens helps provide coverage from leaves, branches, dirt and insects while riding through wooded or exposed terrain. The photochromic function is particularly useful where the route repeatedly moves between sunlight and shade.
For road cycling, the large lens helps protect the eyes from airflow, dust and insects. Its adaptive darkening makes the model suitable for routes where brightness can change over the course of the ride.
Gravel and cyclocross frequently combine open, exposed sections with wooded terrain and rapidly changing light. ROUBAIX combines wide coverage with a lens designed to adjust automatically as those conditions change.
For longer rides, low weight and an adaptable lens can reduce the need to manage different eyewear as weather and daylight evolve throughout the day.
The DCHROM® lens is made from polycarbonate, a material widely suited to dynamic sports eyewear because it combines low weight with good resistance to impact and fragmentation. Compared with more brittle lens materials, polycarbonate is less likely to break into sharp fragments following an accidental impact.
The lens also filters ultraviolet radiation, while its combination of photochromic behaviour and mirrored external finish allows ROUBAIX to maintain a technical, performance-oriented appearance across different light conditions.
The ROUBAIX frame is made from TR90, using the nylon and carbon-fibre composition specified for this model. The material provides a combination of low weight, flexibility and resistance to mechanical stress, making it well suited to cycling and other movement-intensive activities.
The frame is designed to flex and adapt to the shape of the head rather than create excessive pressure. This contributes to a stable and comfortable fit during both short, intense rides and longer periods of use.
With a total stated weight of just 25 grams, ROUBAIX combines a large protective lens format with a lightweight construction intended to remain comfortable over extended distances.
ROUBAIX uses a Base 8 lens geometry. This strongly curved profile is commonly associated with highly wraparound sports eyewear and supports the wide, close-fitting shape of the model.
Combined with its large single lens, this geometry helps extend coverage around the front and sides of the eye area, an important characteristic for cyclists exposed to airflow and debris while moving at speed.
