Using non-Category 4 lenses at high altitudes can lead to noticeable redness and, in some cases, even tearing of the eyes by the end of the day, which may require approximately 48 hours of rest. Category 4 lenses for intense mountain light
Category 4 lenses are designed for very intense sunlight and demanding mountain environments. Their darker tint provides substantially greater light reduction than lower lens categories, helping improve visual comfort when exposure to bright light and reflections from snow or ice is particularly strong.
This makes Category 4 eyewear especially relevant for high-mountain and glacier environments, where light intensity can be considerably higher than in everyday outdoor situations.
Important: Category 4 lenses are extremely dark and are
not suitable for driving.
Lightweight polycarbonate replacement lenses
Polycarbonate construction
The DOME replacement lenses are made from polycarbonate, a material widely used in sports and protective eyewear because it combines low weight with good impact resistance. Compared with more brittle lens materials such as glass, polycarbonate is also much less likely to break into sharp fragments following an accidental impact.
Dark smoke tint
The smoke inner tint is designed to reduce the amount of visible light reaching the eyes in extremely bright conditions, supporting more comfortable vision during prolonged exposure to intense sunlight.
Silver mirrored exterior
The external silver mirror gives the lens its distinctive technical appearance while complementing the dark Category 4 base. The mirrored finish does not imply polarization or photochromic performance.

This product is supplied as a pair of replacement lenses for the DOME model, allowing the original eyewear to be restored without replacing the complete pair of glasses.
