SPEED VENT – Photochromic Mirrored Cycling Sunglasses
SPEED VENT is designed for road cycling and mountain biking, combining a wide sports lens with DCHROM® Category 1–3 photochromic technology and a mirrored exterior finish. The lens adapts as UV exposure changes, moving from a lighter Category 1 state towards Category 3 in stronger light. This makes SPEED VENT particularly useful for cyclists who encounter changing conditions during the same ride, while the wide Base 8 geometry, lightweight TR90 frame and adjustable nose pad are designed to support coverage, comfort and stability in motion.

Designed for changing conditions on the bike
Cycling rarely means riding under exactly the same light from start to finish. Open roads, shaded sections, woodland, cloud cover and changes in the time of day can all alter the amount of light reaching the eyes. SPEED VENT is built around a photochromic mirrored lens that responds to these variations without requiring the rider to change lenses manually.
The lens begins in Category 1 and can darken to Category 3 as UV exposure increases. The result is a wider usable range than a fixed-tint cycling lens, making the model particularly suitable for rides that move between lower and brighter light conditions.
Its wide shield-style profile also creates a distinctly sporty field of coverage. Combined with the Base 8 curvature, this geometry helps shield the eye area from airflow and common riding disturbances such as dust, insects and small airborne debris.
DCHROM® Category 1–3 photochromic mirrored lens
The DCHROM® lens changes its level of tint according to UV exposure. In lower UV conditions it remains lighter; as UV exposure increases, the lens progressively darkens until reaching Category 3.
This adaptation is valuable for cycling routes where light can change repeatedly during the ride. A rider may move from shaded sections into open sunlight, encounter changing cloud cover or start and finish in noticeably different conditions.
SPEED VENT also combines photochromic behaviour with an external mirrored finish. The mirror treatment gives the eyewear its distinctive appearance, while the underlying photochromic technology remains responsible for the change in lens darkness.
The inner lens colour changes from a lighter semi-transparent appearance towards smoke as the lens darkens. The mirror colour seen from the outside should therefore not be confused with the colour experienced by the wearer when looking through the lens.
Road cycling
Wide coverage at speed
On a road bike, the large lens and wraparound profile help reduce direct exposure to airflow while providing broad coverage around the eyes. The adaptive Category 1–3 lens is particularly practical when a route alternates between shaded roads, open sections and stronger sunlight.
Mountain biking
Coverage for dynamic terrain
For MTB use, the wide shield helps create a protective visual barrier against common trail disturbances such as dust, insects and small debris. The adjustable nose pad and grip components are designed to help the frame remain stable during vibration and repeated movement.
Optical protection
UV400 polycarbonate lens
SPEED VENT uses a polycarbonate lens with UV400 protection. UV400 filtration is designed to filter ultraviolet radiation up to 400 nm, covering UVA and UVB wavelengths.
Polycarbonate is well suited to sports eyewear because it combines low weight with good resistance to impact and fragmentation compared with more brittle lens materials. These characteristics make it appropriate for dynamic activities such as road cycling and mountain biking, where eyewear must remain light while coping with continuous movement and outdoor exposure.

Lightweight TR90
The frame is made from TR90, a material commonly used in performance eyewear for its combination of low weight and flexibility. The complete SPEED VENT weighs 30 grams, helping reduce unnecessary load during longer rides.
Adjustable nose pad and grip
The adjustable nose pad allows the contact area around the nose to be fine-tuned to the wearer. Soft Megol rubberised components provide additional grip, helping support frame stability when cycling over uneven surfaces or during frequent head movement.
Wraparound geometry
Base 8 lens for a distinctly sporty profile
SPEED VENT uses a Base 8 lens curvature. This strongly curved geometry is typical of wraparound sports eyewear and allows the lens to follow the contours of the face more closely than a flatter everyday sunglass lens.
For cycling, this shape contributes to broader peripheral coverage while maintaining the aggressive, shield-style appearance that defines the SPEED VENT design.
