Running glasses and Trail Running with progressive lenses

Running Glasses and Trail Running with Progressive Lenses
Running glasses with progressive lenses are designed for athletes who require progressive corrective lenses to engage in their favorite running disciplines. Whether you practice trail running, road running, track running, or other outdoor activities, finding the right glasses can be challenging, especially if you need progressive lenses for both the view along your route and for reading instruments. Athletes often struggle to find the ideal pair of glasses that meets all their needs, allowing them to practice their sport with complete freedom, safety, and clear vision.

The Progressive Lens
The progressive lens is a special type of lens that guarantees a clear and dynamic view at all distances—near and far—through a single pair of glasses. Often referred to as multifocal lenses, they consist of three distinct zones without any visible separating lines, providing excellent aesthetics and maximum comfort:

  • Near Zone: By lowering your gaze, you'll have a clear view for near tasks.
  • Intermediate Zone: This is the central portion of the lens, designed for perfect vision at medium distances.
  • Distance Zone: The upper portion of the lens allows for clear vision at a distance.

With just one pair of progressive glasses, you can correct myopia, hyperopia, and astigmatism. Presbyopia, or difficulty with near vision, can also be addressed with the same lenses at reading distances.

Why Choose Glasses for Running and Trail Running with Progressive Lenses
For those who practice running and trail running, there are various solutions for correcting visual defects. Traditionally, compromises have often been made because clip systems did not have sufficient dimensions to accommodate progressive lenses. As a result, many runners settled for single vision lenses for correcting myopia, which limited their ability to read instruments. Others opted for non-technical frames that were not aesthetically appealing.

Demon has developed various solutions, including both clip systems and direct frame options that support progressive lenses for running. The technical aspect of progressive eyewear for runners is essential to ensure perfect vision on the route (road, dirt, track). Additionally, the glasses must provide maximum protection from air and debris such as dust and insects, be comfortable for prolonged use, and effectively resist fogging.

However, the aesthetic aspect is just as important as the technical features of the glasses and lenses. Demon is constantly researching and developing new designs that are both visually striking and highly functional.

Reading:

Often, athletes who use progressive lenses for everyday running have had to settle for glasses with single vision lenses or non-technical frames that cannot accommodate progressive lenses. However, with single vision lenses, it is impossible to read instruments, resulting in the sacrifice of certain technologies. In trail running, being able to read the screen is almost essential for monitoring all parameters (both vital and geographical) effectively.

Choosing running and trail running glasses with progressive lenses not only ensures a perfect view of your tools but also allows you to focus solely on your performance and the enjoyment of the running.

Types of Gradation for Running with Progressive Lenses:

To fit running and trail running glasses with progressive lenses, there are two possible options:

  • Clip Optics: The clip revolutionizes the concept of the classic sports optical frame. This special technology is inserted directly into the frame of the sports glasses, providing protection from light and creating a "double lens" effect. The external lens has the characteristics of standard sports glasses, while the internal lens is transparent and progressive for a perfect view of your path. To create progressive lenses using Clip Optics technology, generous dimensions are required for the athlete's ideal fit. In the Demon PERFORMANCE collection, the running model supports progressive lenses and is available in three different versions:

    • Photochromic and mirrored
    • Photochromic
    • Mirrored

  • Optical Support: Optical media is an alternative for those who prefer not to use Clip Optics technology. It is possible to create graduations in base 8 (which is particularly expensive); however, for those with significant astigmatism, this type of graduation can be quite costly. Graduating in base 6 via optical support is a valid alternative that reduces the possibility of lateral vision distortion and significantly lowers the cost of progressive lenses compared to base 8.
