Running glasses and Trail Running with progressive lenses
Running Glasses and Trail Running with Progressive Lenses
DEMON progressive sports glasses are designed for runners and trail runners who need clear distance vision along the route, but also need to read GPS devices, heart rate monitors, maps or smartphones without sacrificing technical fit, comfort or protection.

What is a progressive lens?
One lens, multiple viewing zones, more natural visual continuity.
Progressive lenses provide clear vision at multiple distances through a single lens design. They are often referred to as multifocal lenses and are built to help the athlete manage distance vision, intermediate viewing and near reading without switching glasses.
This is especially useful in running and trail running, where the athlete may need to quickly alternate between the path ahead and small screens or tools used during training.
How a progressive lens works
Why choose progressive glasses for running?
Because clear route vision is not enough if you cannot read your instruments comfortably.
Many runners have traditionally had to compromise: either using single-vision sports glasses and giving up easy instrument reading, or choosing less technical everyday frames that do not provide the protection and fit required for sport.
DEMON has developed solutions that make it possible to combine progressive correction, technical sports design, broader side vision and better comfort while running or trail running.

Why athletes choose this setup
Progressive sports eyewear helps combine route visibility, screen readability and technical performance.
Route Clarity
Essential for seeing road, trail, terrain changes and direction with confidence.
Reading Instruments
Useful for checking GPS watches, heart rate monitors and smartphones without interrupting performance.
Technical Protection
Helps protect from wind, dust, insects and external projections during outdoor use.
Visual Relaxation
Reduces visual strain and helps the athlete stay focused on movement and performance.
Reading on the run
In running and trail running, small screens often become the weak point of vision.
Many athletes who use progressive lenses in everyday life still struggle when trying to transfer that same visual comfort into a technical sports frame. The problem becomes even more obvious in trail running, where GPS devices, maps and heart rate data are often essential.
Progressive sports glasses allow the athlete to preserve route vision while also improving the ability to read tools quickly and naturally, without breaking rhythm.

Types of gradation for running with progressive lenses
There are two main ways to build a progressive sports solution for running and trail running.
DEMON offers two distinct technical approaches depending on the athlete’s preferences: one based on Clip Optics technology and one based on Optical Support. Both aim to make progressive sports vision more functional and more realistic in a technical running frame.
Clip Optics
Clip Optics technology inserts an internal progressive lens solution into a technical sports frame, creating a dual-structure concept: the outer lens preserves the protective and sporty function, while the inner transparent lens carries the progressive correction. In the DEMON PERFORMANCE collection, this solution is available in different versions, including photochromic and mirrored options.
Optical Support
Optical Support is a valid alternative for athletes who prefer not to use Clip Optics. By allowing a base 6 setup instead of a more expensive base 8 solution, it can reduce the cost of progressive lenses and also help lower the risk of lateral visual distortion.

Why this matters in practice
The right technical structure allows progressive lenses to become realistic in sport, not just in daily life.
The main challenge in sports eyewear is not just adding a prescription, but preserving comfort, visual stability, side protection and a believable sports fit. DEMON’s solutions are designed to make progressive sports eyewear more usable in real running scenarios.
This is especially important for athletes who want both instrument readability and a true technical frame.
Choose the final lens setup together with your trusted optician.
The ideal running or trail running setup should be defined based on your prescription, your sensitivity to light, the instruments you use most often and the type of routes you usually run. This helps create a truly high-performance progressive sports solution.
