DOUBLE LENSES FOR SKI AND SNOWBOARD SNOW GOGGLES

Double lenses are one of the most effective solutions for improving visual comfort and continuity during time on the snow. The idea is simple yet extremely functional: create an insulating barrier that helps stabilize the internal temperature and reduce the onset of condensation, so vision stays clearer through changes in pace and weather conditions.

What double-lens technology is

Double lenses are a special technology used in snow goggles for skiing and snowboarding. They consist of a "sandwich" of two lenses: an outer lens in smoke, orange, blue, pink, or clear coloring depending on the model, and a thinner completely transparent inner lens, bonded together with a special spongy plastic material.
The way this technology works is the same as double-glazed windows: it clearly separates the cold outside temperature from the warm inside temperature, counteracting and preventing fogging on the inner surface.

This air “cushion” between the two lenses works as thermal insulation: it reduces thermal shock and makes condensation less likely to form on the inside, exactly where moisture from breathing and sweat tends to build up. The result is more stable vision on cold days, during chairlift stops, and when starting again.

Put simply

The double lens creates a barrier between “outside” and “inside”: less thermal shock = less chance of internal fogging.

Anti-fog treatment and ventilation on double-lens snow goggles

How it works and what improves performance

The inner surface of the inner lens is equipped with an anti-fog treatment to counter fogging even more effectively. Some models are also equipped with ventilation ports on the lens for greater airflow, generally needed because of reduced ventilation in the frame.

The combination of thermal insulation (double lens), anti-fog treatment, and proper ventilation helps manage internal moisture more effectively. When air circulates efficiently, it helps stabilize the internal microclimate and reduce condensation build-up. This is a real advantage especially on humid days, during snowfall, or when activity intensity changes often.

  • Insulation: separates warm and cold like double glazing.
  • Support: the anti-fog treatment increases effectiveness on the inner side.
  • Ventilation: vents help air exchange where needed.

Safety, durability, and comfort of polycarbonate

Both lenses are made of premium shatter-resistant polycarbonate. From a safety standpoint, polycarbonate is the safest material on the market for protection (in sports and work settings) against accidental impacts because of its unbreakable nature.
In the event of a very strong impact, the lens does not generate any kind of fragment that could damage the eyes, but instead distributes the shock across the entire surface, creating a spiderweb visual effect that renders the lens unusable.
In addition to safety, polycarbonate is very lightweight and flexible, and it can withstand high and low temperatures without deforming.

In snow sports, visual safety is essential: branches, ice, compact snow, or small accidental impacts can happen. A lens designed to manage impacts in a controlled way increases eye protection and preserves comfort in use. On top of that, lightness and flexibility help keep the goggle stable and comfortable even for many hours.

Shatter-resistant

A structure designed to withstand accidental impacts typical of sports activity.

Lightweight and flexible

Greater comfort and stability, especially useful during long sessions.

Thermal resistance

Maintains its properties without deforming in high and low temperatures.

FAQ

Why does the double lens help against fogging?

The way this technology works is the same as double-glazed windows: it clearly separates the cold outside temperature from the warm inside temperature, counteracting and preventing fogging on the inner surface.

Does the inner lens also have a dedicated treatment?

The inner surface of the inner lens is equipped with an anti-fog treatment to counter fogging even more effectively.

What material is used for the lenses?

What happens in the event of a strong impact?

In the event of a very strong impact, the lens does not generate any kind of fragment that could damage the eyes, but instead distributes the shock across the entire surface, creating a spiderweb visual effect that renders the lens unusable.
